We had an opportunity to listen to a very Interesting presentation by Georgian Ambassador in Canada Konstantin Kavtaradze highlighting important political connections between Georgia and Poland. Historically Georgian soldiers escaped soviet invasion in 1918 and after 3 months in Turkey were welcomed by Jozef Pilsudski to relocate and join armed forces in Poland.
The most recent and impactful action of the Poland's President Lech Kaczynski was the quick decision in 2008 to fly to Tbilisi together with Presidents of Estonia, Latvia ,Lithuania, Ukraine to protest and prevent another Russia's invasion. This allowed for enough time to stop the Russian occupation of entire Georgia. Because of this action Georgians are forever grateful to remain an independent country. There is still 10 thousand of Russian military stationing in Georgia, but the overtaking of the whole country was prevented with the quick action of President Lech Kaczynski. The presentation was organized by Polish Veterans Association in BC and among invited guests were representatives of other organizations, Canadian Polish Congress BC, President M. Dembek and Vice-President I. Swiatczak, as well as members of Hungarian Cultural Society in Vancouver President Greg Csiszar and Miklos Pardanyi.
Thanks to the organizers and Ambassador Mr. Konstantin Kavtaradze for the very interesting evening.
